Selangor Turf Club (SLTC) has officially launched a returfing initiative on its main track, marking a significant investment in safety and performance enhancement for horses and jockeys. The project, which began on 21st July 2025, targets the short course segment from the 450-metre to 1250-metre mark, covering an area of approximately 8,000 square metres.

The returfing works will replace older turf that served for many years and had gone through some remarkable wear and tear, with the same species Zoysia El Toro grass — a premium turf variety renowned for its cushioning effect, stability, and grip. These qualities are expected to improve track safety, reduce leg stress on racing horses and offer a more consistent racing experience.

The extensive scope includes:

– Sod cutting and turf removal

– Excavation to a depth of 6 inches

– Soil enhancement with peat and sand mix

– Planting of Zoysia El Toro turf

– Top dressing and compacting

– Irrigation and turf maintenance

The project is led by the Club’s Tracks Department with oversight from SLTC Management and is anticipated to be completed by 4th August 2025.

“This returfing effort reflects SLTC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining world-class racing conditions. We are dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism”, said CEO of Selangor Turf Club, Dato’ Michael Fong.

The Selangor Turf Club continues to invest in infrastructure improvements to align with global best practices and uphold its status as a premier racing venue in Southeast Asia.
