In this regard, he explained that it was his intention to allow his mount to stride freely upon jumping into a position where it was comfortable. However, approaching the 800M, his mount became severely unbalanced, which required him to gather his horse together prior to asking it to gain momentum again. He further explained that upon turning for home, he attempted to draw his whip in the right hand, however, he felt his mount became unbalanced and lugged. Consequently, he elected to draw his whip in the left hand and after feeling confident that he had balanced the gelding, he again switched his whip to the right hand, however upon doing so, his horse reacted to the release in pressure and ducked in sharply. His explanation was noted.

8

MOONGATE HERO

(Z Khairil)

Eased at the 800M.

Jockey O Chavez appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of PACIFIC POWER. In this regard, he further explained that it was his intention to lead in this race, however, after jumping only fairly and observing 3 horses competing for the lead, as in his last start, he was equally satisfied to obtain cover behind runners in a handy position. He further explained that after shifting in behind runners, his horse commenced to race fiercely, hang in and race on to heels. He stated that he was aware that there were 2 other runners on his inside, however, whilst attempting to correct PACIFIC POWER, the horse resented the correction and shifted in anyway. Thereafter, it was his view that despite PACIFIC POWER acquiring a good position behind the speed and settling somewhat in the running, the gelding again became unbalanced going through the 700M. In the straight, PACIFIC POWER commenced to hang in and shifted in away from the whip, which Jockey O Chavez described PACIFIC POWER’s performance as disappointing. His explanation was noted.

(HS Gill)

Poor performance – 1000M/Vet.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Bahauddin, the rider of SWEET N SOUR, in the presence of his Employing Trainer’s representative, Mr. Logan, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SWEET N SOUR, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to CHINA PEARL (B Pinheiro) and NORTHERN STAR (AL Da Silva) at the 900M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Bahauddin’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) SLTC race days with effect from 18 August 2025 and to expire on 31 August 2025, both dates inclusive. (XC Liang)

Jockey O Chavez appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of PACIFIC HERO. In this regard, he explained that his horse was an aggressive horse, which by nature, shows significant early pace and races to the lead. In this race, his PACIFIC HERO had shown early speed, however after being further engaged by YES MAN, took hold of the bit, resulting in it being unable to be restrained and entering an unintentional speed battle with YES MAN. His explanation was noted.

Jockey B Pinheiro appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of YES MAN. In this regard, he explained that he was of the view that with the pattern of racing today, his best opportunity of winning would be to lead. However, whilst attempting to do so, PACIFIC HERO had the same idea which resulted in YES MAN and PACIFIC HERO being positioned alongside each other and dueling for the lead.

When questioned regarding whether there was an opportunity for Jockey B Pinheiro to ease the pressure, he explained that he had attempted to do so, however, he felt his mount immediately resented this action. Therefore, he elected to allow his mount to stride as this was a 1020M race. By the top of the straight, he felt he was travelling better than PACIFIC HERO and attempted to use any advantage he gained to skip away from the field. However in the concluding stages, the early exertions of YES MAN tolled, and he was passed by another runner.  His explanation was noted.
