DAY 1, SATURDAY – 19^th FEBRUARY 2022

STATE OF TRACK: RACES 1 to 4 – YIELDING, RACES 5 to 8 – GOOD

RACE 1 (R225) CLASS 5(B) – 1600m (lc)

Emergency acceptors CROWN DELIGHT, BALBOA and SWEET LODGE were withdrawn due to capacity field.

The saddle on PENANG BANK (App R Nuqman) was re-adjusted behind the barriers.

NAPOLEON (J Daniel) jumped awkwardly.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry today, Jockey S Rosmizan, the rider of SOON YOU THINK pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that:

he failed to give sufficient rein to SOON YOU THINK on jumping;
thereafter, he failed to make any serious attempt to improve his position which was contrary to his Trainer’s instructions and he thereby, failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Rosmizan’s guilty plea, riding records and mitigating factors. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months, effective from Monday, 21^st February 2022 and to expire on Friday, 20^th May 2022, both dates inclusive. In addition, Jockey S Rosmizan was fined the sum of RM10,000/- (Malaysian Ringgit: Ten Thousand Only) He was advised of his right of appeal (5.45pm).

Jockeys S Rosmizan, J Daniel and R Rueven, the riders of SOON YOU THINK, NAPOLEON and BABEL respectively reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of SOON YOU THINK, NAPOLEON and BABEL revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 2 (R226) CLASS 5(B) – 1200m (lc)

LOYALTY’S ANGEL, a course scratching as it had sustained a swollen off fore fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

LUCKY SIXTYSIX (App S Hafis) jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. ARECIBO (App WW Cheah) was also slow into stride.

At approximately the 250M-mark, NEVERUNCONDITIONAL (App R Nuqman) had to steady off the heels of PERFECT KIARA (R Rueven) which was hanging out. Shortly thereafter, NEVERUNCONDITIONAL raced tight for some distance on the inside of ONCE A THIEF (App A Najib).

Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of D’GREAT LOVE reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises during the race. A post-race veterinary examination of D’GREAT LOVE revealed that the mare had returned broken-winded and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

App R Nuqman, the rider of NEVERUNCONDITIONAL reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of NEVERUNCONDITIONAL revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 3 (R227) CLASS 5 (B) – 1200m (lc)

The Panel of Stewards permitted App A Nazir to ride SUNTZU instead of App A Najib.

As there was no suitable apprentice available, the Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey J Daniel to replace App I Firdzriel as the rider of HERO CHAMPION as the latter was medically stood down.

Acting on veterinary advice that MIGHTY PHOENIX had sustained a cut to its coronary band off hind, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 2.08pm. The gelding will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

FLYING EBONY (App A Saran) was slow to begin.

At approximately the 800M-mark, TILSWORTH MALI (SS Vanan) was crowded and had to be steadied between FLYING EBONY and GOLDEN STATES (App S Hafis).

FLYING EBONY shifted in passing the 200M-mark, crowding and inconveniencing GOLDEN STATES.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FLYING EBONY had bled and as such, the gelding will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

After reviewing his ride, Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of TILSWORTH MALI was warned that he would be expected to ride all his mounts out so as to leave no room for query.

YOU ARE SPECIAL, a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near fore sole, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again

NATUREISSPEAKING (HK Cheng) jumped awkwardly outwards, crowding D’GREAT EMPRESS (AM Aizat) and INTROIT (KC Wong).

CHERISH (R Rueven) jumped inwards and SO BEAUTIFUL (L De Souza) shifted outwards over the heels of INTROIT, resulting in MA BAO BAO (J Daniel) and GHOST AFFAIR (App R Nuqman) being crowded.

NATUREISSPEAKING was hanging out at the backstraight.

The state of track was upgraded to ‘Good’ after the running of this race.

PONTIANAK, a course scratching it had sustained a swollen off fore fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Emergency acceptor MOONGATE was withdrawn due to capacity field.

MR ALFONSO (CK Khaw) jumped awkwardly.

Passing the 800M-mark, ALCATRAZ (S Rosmizan) rolled inwards and MR ALFONSO (CK Khaw) rolled outwards slightly, resulting in D’GREAT DUCHESS (SS Vanan) being inconvenienced.

At approximately the 200M-mark, CK Tan, the rider of KING POWER dropped his right side rein and regained it shortly thereafter.

App A Saran, the rider of ALWAYS D’GREAT eased up his riding at the later stages when he was of the opinion that his mount was tiring. A post-race veterinary examination of ALWAYS D’GREAT revealed no obvious abnormality.

App S Hafis and App R Nuqman, the riders of MAESTRO ECLIPSE and ALRALI respectively, both reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations MAESTRO ECLIPSE revealed no obvious abnormality and ALRALI returned with a cut to its heel bulb left hind.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that EASY SOUTH EAST returned with heat stress and as such, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

RACE 6 (R230) CLASS 5 (B) – 1400m (sc)

AMAZING DRAGON, a course scratching as it sustained a swollen off hind pastern, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Emergency acceptor KYO was withdrawn due to capacity field.

Acting on veterinary advice that EMPIRE BAY (R Rueven) was lame off fore, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3.43pm. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

KEEN DRAGON (S Rosmizan) and MY FIRST MILLION (HK Cheng) were both examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and were passed fit to start.

MY FIRST MILLION which wad difficult to be loaded, delaying the start, will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

The saddle on NOVA DASHING (AM Aizat) slipped back badly during the running, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

On straightening, VETRI NAMATHE (L De Souza) commenced to give ground rapidly, struck the inside rail and collapsed at the 100M-mark. VETRI NAMATHE was humanely euthanized. Jockey L De Souza was exempted from weighing-in.

App S Hafis, the rider of EXCALIBUR reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination of EXCALIBUR revealed no obvious abnormality.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App WW Cheah, the rider of FLEDGELING in the presence of his master Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge for misconduct under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that after the running of this race today, he consumed an alcoholic drink in the Jockeys’ Room after winning this race and having had his last ride for the day.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into account App WW Cheah’s forthright evidence, his record and mitigating factors. He was fined the sum of RM2,000/- and was advised of his right of appeal (4.38pm).

Emergency acceptor STAR GENIUS was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

DANCING RAIN which was up 30kgs and THE DODGER which was down 20kgs in body weight since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey J Chuah to replace Jockey L De Souza, as the rider of AHTIMS KLIS when the latter was medically stood down.

Jockey S Rosmizan, the rider of DISCRETELY RED reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of DISCRETELY RED revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of THE DODGER (HK Cheng) revealed that the gelding had returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of RAGNAR reported that his mount did not handle the going today.

Jockey F Yap, the rider of IAMBUTTER was shown the video of his ride and he was warned to ensure that he rides all his mounts to the finish in future. A post-race veterinary examination of IAMBUTTER which raced poorly, revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Jockeys SS Vanan (LINCOLN COUNTY), F Yap (BIG POWER) and R Rueven (KEEN DRAGON reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Subsequent post-race veterinary examinations of LINCOLN COUNTY, BIG POWER and KEEN DRAGON revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey S Salee, the rider of HANGRY was warned regarding his excessive whip use.

SING ROULETTE (HS Gill) was examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

GOLD COMPANY (SU Lim) was slow into stride.

Passing the 300M-mark, FAST AND SUPER (App S Hafis) which was laying out, shifted outwards, resulting in NORTHERN KNIGHT (HK Cheng) steadying inwards over its heels. Shortly thereafter, PENNSYLVANIA (App I Firdzriel) rolled outwards, carrying NORTHERN KNIGHT outwards.

In the concluding stages, FAST AND SUPER continued to roll outwards, carrying NORTHERN KNIGHT out. Jockey HK Cheng, the rider of NORTHERN KNIGHT, placed 2^nd lodged an objection against the winner, FAST AND SUPER (App S Hafis), on grounds of alleged interference in the straight. After considering all the evidence and viewing the videos, the Panel of Stewards overruled the objection and the Judges’ results stood.

App S Hafis, the rider of FAST AND SUPER, in the presence of his acting Employing Trainer, Mr. Evert van Breukelen, was warned to make greater effort to keep his mount straight, on a straight course in future.

App I Firdzriel, the rider of PENNSYLVANIA was shown the video of his ride and was warned to make greater effort to keep his mount straight and also to ride all his mounts out fully to the finish.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of ISLE OF SKY reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of ISLE OF SKY revealed no obvious abnormality.

HEART OF COURAGE (CC Foo) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

MAKE U FAMOUS (HK Cheng) which was hanging out, raced wide on the turn.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of RED SYMPHONY reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of RED SYMPHONY revealed that the gelding returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

JUNIOR was a course scratching as it had sustained a bruised near fore cannon and will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

WINDOW OF TIME which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

The Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of DARK WIZARD (AK Lim) at 4.15pm acting on veterinary advice that the gelding was found to be lame in its near hind. As such, DARK WIZARD will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

AGNI (SU Lim) jumped outwards, carrying NATUREISSPEAKING (HK Cheng) and BACH’S AIR (S Saddam) out.

WINTERFELL (L De Souza) jumped awkwardly.

Trainer S Shanmugam was questioned with regards to the improved performance of BALL AND CHAIN today. He stated that he has changed his training method and kept this horse fresh. His explanations were noted and his attention was drawn to MRA Rule 113(7) regarding ‘in-and-out’ running.

ACE’S WILD was a course scratching when it had sustained a bruised near hock. STORMY VIEW was a course scratching when it had sustained bruised both fore fetlocks. MAGNUM FORCE was a course scratching when it had injured its off fore in the float. Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

MASTER JIANGMEN (App S Hafis) was slow into stride.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of RACE FOR FAME reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of RACE FOR FAME revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey HK Cheng to replace Jockey J Daniel, as the rider of PURPLE RAIN when the latter was stood down by the Club Medical Officer.

FLAGSHIP (AK Lim) was examined behind the barriers by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and was passed fit to start.

IPOH DASH (App S Hafis) was slow into stride.

EASY SOUTH EAST (S Saddam) jumped awkwardly outwards, carrying ELUSIVE EMPEROR (S Salee) outwards. In this incident, ELUSIVE EMPEROR stumbled.

The saddle on PURPLE RAIN (HK Cheng) slipped back during the running.

Jockey S Saddam (EASY SOUTH EAST) and App I Firdzriel (SHADOW SPEED) reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of EASY SOUTH EAST revealed that the gelding returned with heat stress and SHADOW SPEED revealed no obvious abnormality. EASY SOUTH EAST will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

KING FORCE was a course scratching when it was found to have a capped elbow and will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

The Panel of Stewards ordered the withdrawal of LOYALTY’S ANGEL at 1.32pm acting on veterinary advice that the mare was found to have sustained a cut on its mouth and as such, the mare will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SO BEAUTIFUL (SS Vanan) stumbled badly on jumping.

At approximately the 600M-mark, LADY BOSS broke down, dislodging Jockey J Low. In this incident, TILSWORTH MALI (CK Tan) and SO BEAUTIFUL took evasive actions. Jockey J Low, the rider of LADY BOSS who was injured, was exempted from weighing-in and was taken to hospital for observations. He would be questioned regarding this incident at a later date.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that LADY BOSS had fractured its near fore cannon and was humanely euthanized.

Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of JJ STAR reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of JJ STAR revealed that the gelding had bled and as such, will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter, will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

Acting on a report regarding an incident in the Jockeys’ Room after the running of this race, the Panel of Stewards opened an inquiry and took evidence from Jockeys HS Gill (THE JEWELLER), J Daniel (NAPOLEON) and SU Lim. Jockey HS Gill, the rider of THE JEWELLER pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he misconduct himself by pushing Jockey J Daniel in an aggressive manner in the Jockeys’ Room. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, effective from 23^rd January 2022 and to expire on 22^nd February 2022, both dates inclusive and was informed of his right of appeal (2.55pm).

The Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey J De Souza to replace Jockey R Rueven as the rider of PACIFIC MISSION, when the latter was medically stood down.

After being loaded, JOEY (S Salee) which broke through the starting stall, was captured, examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon, was passed fit to start and had to be re-boxed. The gelding will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

GHAZALAH (App A Azizi) which was unable to be loaded, was withdrawn by order of the Panel of Stewards at 4.22pm and will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

RACE 1 (R013) CLASS 4(A) – 1600m (lc) HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY HANDICAP

EMIRATES WARRIOR, a course scratching as it sustained bruised both fore fetlocks, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

ORDOS LEGEND which was up 18kgs in body weight since it last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

At approximately the 350M-mark, LUCKY TIGER (App A Saran) shifted outwards, resulting in TRIPLE ONE STAR (App S Sia) becoming crowded and having to check. An objection was lodged by App S Sia, the rider of TRIPLE ONE STAR, placed 3^rd against LUCKY TIGER (App A Saran), placed 2^nd on grounds of alleged interference at approximately the 350M-mark. After considering all the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that TRIPLE ONE STAR would have finished ahead of LUCKY TIGER, but for the incident, upheld the objection and the results were amended as follows:-

LUCKY TIGER and MR DJ (M Yusri) brushed at approximately the 100M-mark.

At a subsequent inquiry, App A Saran, the rider of LUCKY TIGER, in the presence of his acting master, Trainer S Shanmugam, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding LUCKY TIGER at approximately the 350M-mark, he shifted outwards, resulting in TRIPLE ONE STAR becoming crowded and having to check.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration App A Saran’s guilty plea, disciplinary record and mitigating factors. App A Saran was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) race days, effective from Monday, 3^rd January 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 9^th January 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (1.45pm).

Jockey J Daniel, the rider of GOOD NEWS was dislodged on the pull-up and was subsequently certified fit to ride by the Club Medical Officer.

A post-race veterinary examination of TRIPLE ONE STAR revealed that the gelding had returned with lacerations to its near hind and as such, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of HELIOSPHERE revealed that the gelding returned broken-winded and had epiglotic entrapment. HELIOSPHERE will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again

A post-race veterinary examination of STAR GENIUS revealed no obvious abnormality.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App R Lingarajan, the rider of STAR GENIUS in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer K Coetzee was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) as read with MRA Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that STAR GENIUS was given a full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.

The details of the charge are that:

After jumping away awkwardly, App R Lingarajan continually takes hold of and restrains his mount in the backstraight, placing it in a position where it could not race to its best advantage.
From the 800M to entering the home straight, he failed to make any attempt to improve his position when it was reasonable to do so.

When deciding on the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration his mitigating factors and riding record. App R Lingarajan was disqualified for a period of one (1) year with immediate effect today, 27^th November 2021 and to expire on 26^th November 2022, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (5.10pm).

INQUIRY INTO THE EVIDENCE SUBMITTED BY TRAINER CC OOI AT THE RUNNING AND HANDLING INQUIRY OF “KRATOS” AT PNTC ON 20^th AND 21^st NOVEMBER 2021 (RACE 5 (R933), SATURDAY, 20^th NOVEMBER 2021) – PENANG TURF CLUB NOVEMBER MEETING 2021

At the conclusion of the inquiry at PRTC today, Trainer CC Ooi pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that, at the inquiries into the running and handling of KRATOS held on 20^th and 21^st November 2021, he, as the Trainer of KRATOS, was completely un-cooperative and would not answer questions by the Stipendiary Stewards or give an opinion on the ride when required to do so.

When deciding on a penalty, the Stipendiary Stewards took into consideration Trainer CC Ooi’s mitigating factors. Trainer CC Ooi was fined a sum of RM5,000/- (Ringgit Malaysia: Five Thousand Only) and he was advised of his right of appeal. (12.05pm)

At approximately the 1000M-mark, DROUGHT (App I Firdzriel) clipped the heels of SUNNY FIGHTER (App S Hafis). At a subsequent inquiry, App S Hafis in the presence of his acting trainer, Trainer S Shanmugam, pleaded guilty to a charge for careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted in when insufficiently clear of DROUGHT, resulting in that horse clipping its heels and stumbling.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration App S Hafis’s plea, disciplinary record and mitigating factors. App S Hafis was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) days, with effect from Monday, 8^th November 2021 and to expire on Sunday, 21^st November 2021, both dates inclusive. He was informed of his right of appeal (4.45pm).

App S Rosmizan, the rider of MODRIC reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of MODRIC revealed no obvious abnormality.

CONTINUATION OF STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ INQUIRY INTO JOCKEY HK CHENG RIDING “BILLY MOJO” WHICH FINISHED UNPLACED IN RACE 3 (R446) ON SATURDAY, 25^th JULY 2020 AND ‘PACIFIC MYSTICAL” WHICH WON IN RACE 2 (R452) ON SUNDAY, 26^th JULY 2020, DURING PENANG JULY MEETING 2020, BOTH THE RUNNERS WERE SOLELY OWNED BY HIS SISTER-IN-LAW, MS CHERELLE GOH AND TRAINED BY TRAINER HY CHENG.

On the 3^rd of November 2021, the PNTC Racing Stewards referred the above matter to the Stipendiary Stewards for further investigation to establish whether any other person(s) should be held liable.

Further evidence were taken from Trainer HY Cheng, the trainer of BILLY MOJO and PACIFIC MYSTICAL into the above matter.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Trainer HY Cheng pleaded guilty to a charge for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) in that he failed to get permission for an exemption for his brother, Jockey HK Cheng to ride the two horses, as required. Trainer HY Cheng was fined the sum of RM2,000/- and was advised of his right of appeal (12.55pm).

Acting on veterinary advice that TAN’S MAESTRO had sustained a bruised off fore sole, the Panel of Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 12.45pm and the gelding will be required to pass veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

YULONG DREAM (App P Haris) jumped away awkwardly

CAPE LINCOLN (HS Gill) jumped awkwardly inwards.

At the conclusion of an Inquiry, Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of RAISE ME UP pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 41(6)(b) for using his whip in an excessive manner.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey SS Vanan’s record and mitigating factors. He was fined a sum of RM500/- and was advised of his right of appeal (1.38pm).

SING EXPRESS which was up 15kgs in body weight while JEFFREY was down 23kgs in body weight since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

As Jockey S Muniandy was medically stood down, the Panel of Stewards permitted Jockey M Yusri to replace him as the rider of SING EXPRESS.

MYSTICAL STAR (App S Hafis) was slow into stride.

JEFFREY (App AR Aiman) and PROVE IT (Y Aify) brushed on jumping.

FIGHTING WARRIOR which was down 28kgs in body weight since it last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

CRACKING TOTTIE (App A Saran) threw its head up badly at the start, losing considerable ground. At a subsequent Inquiry, App A Saran, the rider of CRACKING TOTTIE in the presence of his master Trainer T Asogan was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The details of the charge are that:

App A Saran failed to give the horse sufficient reins on jumping, resulting in CRACKING TOTTIE being fractious, throwing its head up badly and losing considerable ground.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration his riding record and mitigating factors. App A Saran was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month with effect from Monday, 8^th November 2021 and to expire on Tuesday, 7^th December 2021, both dates inclusive. He was informed of his right of appeal (5.48 pm).

Approaching the 300M-mark, MR DAVID (Y Aify) shifted out over the heels of RULE THE WORLD (HS Gill) and in so doing, carried IPOH DASH and CHAR KWAY TEOW outwards.

Passing the 200M-mark, AUSSIE EAGLE (CK Khaw) rolled outwards, brushing STORM WARNING (CK Tan).

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of RULE THE WORLD reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of RULE THE WORLD revealed no obvious abnormality.

Prior to the ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Jockey R Rueven, the rider of SUCCESS STREET, placed 2^nd against THUNDERSTRUCK (KC Wong), being declared the winner on grounds of alleged interference at about the 250M to the 100M-mark. After considering all the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the results stood.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Trainer K Coetzee, the trainer of SING DARCI with regards to the disappointing performance of SING DARCI. He was unable to offer any explanations and confirmed that he was also very disappointed with the run. Trainer K Coetzee was advised to report back to the Stewards should he finds anything amiss with SING DARCI during the week, which may have accounted for the run. His attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding in-and-out running.

MY FIRST MILLION which was fractious in the barrier, jumped extremely awkwardly and was slow to begin. In this incident, Jockey HK Cheng struck his head on the top of the barrier. MY FIRST MILLION will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

SECOND CHANCE (App S Hafis), LIM’S LEADER (HS Gill), NAPOLEON (S Saddam) and INDOMITABLE SPEED (App I Firdzriel) were slow into stride.

ROCK ME EASY (S Muniandy) hung out at the later stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of INDOMITABLE SPEED revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Jockey S Muniandy, the rider of SONNY BILL and Trainer K Coetzee, the trainer of SONNY BILL with regards to the performance of SONNY BILL. Jockey S Muniandy explained that the gelding was pulling hard and was very difficult to settle and approaching the 800M, he shifted out to avoid the heels of runners in front of him. Trainer K Coetzee was of the opinion that the 1400M today was possibly too short and he undertook to race this gelding over more ground in future. The Panel of Stewards were not entirely satisfied with their explanations but took no further action.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Trainer PK Leong and Jockey HS Gill, the trainer of and the rider of DON’T FORGET THIS respectively with regards to the disappointing performance today, as compared to its run last week on 23^rd October 2021 when it won the race. Jockey HS Gill stated that after jumping well, the gelding had no early pace and compounded in the straight. Trainer PK Leong was unable to offer any explanations. DON’T FORGET THIS will now be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

RACE 6 (R854) CLASS 4(A) – 1000m (sc) HALLOWEEN HANDICAP

DISCRETELY RED, PLACE YOUR BET and FAST AND SUPER, all course scratching as they had sustained sore back, bruised off fore fetlock and bruised off hind cannon respectively, each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SPLENDOR and YES BOSSY which were up 16kgs and 17kgs respectively in body weight since their last run, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

SPLENDOR (S Muniandy) and PALTROW (App S Hafis) were slow into stride.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of YES BOSSY reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of YES BOSSY revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that EASY SOUTH EAST (M Yusri) returned with severe heat stress and was administered an emergency treatment.

The Panel of Stewards questioned Trainer PK Leong, the trainer of CROWN STAR with regards to its improved performance today. Trainer PK Leong was unable to offer any explanation. His attention was drawn to MRA Rule 117(3) regarding in-and-out running and he was warned that if this horse builds up a pattern of inconsistent running in future, the gelding may be suspended.

Post-race veterinary surgeon reported that MIRACLE TIME (MRA NO. H138) sustained a laceration to the back of the right hind limb cannon region during the running of Race 5 on 23^rd October 2021. The gelding will required to pass a veterinary exam before being declared to race again

Trainer Ooi Chin Chin was fined RM200 for allowing his horse to do fast work on a track designated for slow work (Sand Track), at 7.45am on Friday, 22^nd October 2021.

On 14^th July 2021, Syce Irwadi Bin Muhamat of Trainer Ooi Chin Chin was fined RM200.00 under MRA Rule 152(5)(b) for failing to follow the SOP set by Penang Turf Club when entering the club premises.

LIM’S MASTER (App AR Raiyan) was slow into stride.

On straightening, the saddle on ELEGENT (J Daniel) shifted sideways with Jockey J Daniel becoming unbalanced for some distance.

After coming off the cutaway, SMART WARRIOR (App K Pavinthran) shifted in considerably, crowding SILENT PRINCE (App Clyde Leck). App K Pavinthran was reprimanded for failing to keep his mount straight.

When questioned, App AB Riduan (BOUNCEBACK ABILITY) stated that his horse had coughed on straightening and then failed to respond to his urging. A post-race veterinary examination of BOUNCEBACK ABILITY revealed no significant finding.

RACE 2 (R818) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M (LONG COURSE)

After being loaded, SMART RACER (App Clyde Leck) got out under the front gate and galloped riderless. The gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1:50pm. This caused a delay of several minutes. Trainer C Leck was advised that SMART RACER will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the Starting Stall) test before being declared to race again. The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that SMART RACER had sustained a laceration on its right thigh.

HAPPY LUCKY STAR (L De Souza) dwelt at the start, losing considerable ground and veered outwards. Jockey L De Souza stated that HAPPY LUCKY STAR had reacted in this manner due to the delay.

PEARL DANCER (C Goon) veered outwards at the start, inconveniencing ELITE BEAST (App AR Raiyan).

Jockey HS Gill (WILLIAM KING) reported that running to the 600M, he was struck in the face by a clod and was unsighted for some distance.

The saddle on HAPPY LUCKY STAR slipped backwards on straightening.

O’REILLY BAY (Y Aify) returned having cast its off fore plate.

When the start was effected, SOUTHERN MAN refused to jump and lost 50M before exiting the stalls. In light of its behaviour, SOUTHERN MAN will be required to pass 2 tests (1000M/vet from the Starting Stall) before being declared to race again.

After being slow to begin, JOCKEY KING (KC Wong) raced erratically in the straight and when making ground quickly, had to be restrained and taken inwards off the heels of TRIPLE ONE STAR (L De Souza) near the 200M. JOCKEY KING then ran onto the heels of BUFFALO SOLDIER (J Daniel) and had to be checked outwards near the winning post. Jockey KC Wong stated that JOCKEY KING had jumped slowly and in the straight, was inclined to lay inwards. When making ground, he attempted to steer the gelding in between runners. The Stewards warned Jockey KC Wong that he must ride with greater caution under similar circumstances in future.

SOUTHERN MAN laid inwards considerably in the straight.

BUFFALO SOLDIER returned having cast its near fore plate.

HUSSONATOR (App WW Cheah) dwelt at the start, then veered outwards when the start was effected, losing considerable ground. Trainer R Lines was advised that HUSSONATOR will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the Starting Stall) test before being declared to race again.

RACE 5 (R821) CLASS 4 (A) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE)

Objection was lodged by Trainer SY Lim, the Trainer of HOWL (App R Nuqman), the second place-getter, against BILLY MOJO (HK Cheng), being declared the winner, alleging interference at the 800M and again the 400M. The Panel of Stewards dismissed the objection and advised Trainer SY Lim that his objection bordered on being frivolous.

D’GREAT BOSS (J Shankar) was fractious in the stalls prior to the start and reared. D’GREAT BOSS again reared as the start was effected, thereby losing considerable margin and thereafter trailed the field. In light of this, Trainer S Dunderdale was advised that D’GREAT BOSS will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the Starting Stall) test before being declared to race again.

Shortly after the start, BLUE HAWAII (App N Varmah) steadied.

Near the 800M, BILLY MOJO and HOWL shifted in causing D’GREAT JOURNEY (AK Lim) to momentarily steady.

Passing the 100M, Jockey R Rueven (BAHAMA MAMA) restrained his horse when the mare strode badly. A post-race veterinary examination of BAHAMA MAMA revealed that it suffered a right hind condylar fracture. The mare was subsequently humanely euthanized.

ARROGATE ACHIEVER (App N Varmah) was squeezed shortly after the start, losing ground.

DRONE (App WW Cheah) and REDOUBT (KC Tham) raced wide throughout.

IT’S GOT IT ALL (KP Lim) laid outwards over the concluding 100M.

When questioned, App WW Cheah stated that DRONE had failed to show its customary gate speed from its outside draw, he had been unable to be in a prominent position and had been trapped wide. Although putting DRONE under pressure in the straight, he was of the opinion that his wide barrier had taken its toll as the gelding failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination of DRONE revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of CONFLIGHT (Y Aify) revealed that it was lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

RACE 7 (R823) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE)

METEOR LOUI (R Rueven) proved difficult to load. Trainer SY Lim was advised that METEOR LOUI will be required to pass a 1000M/vet (from the Starting Stall) test before being declared to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of METEOR LOUI revealed that it was lame off fore.

SIEW YUK (C Goon), MAINSTREAM (App N Varmah) and BABY BOSS (KC Wong) were slow into stride.

In the early and middle stages, CHEYENNE DANCER (AK Lim) and METEOR LOUI were inclined to race greenly.

Jockey WK Lee (JOJU) was warned for continuing to use his whip when his mount was clearly winning.

The Stewards questioned App WW Cheah as to his riding of READY TO GOOD LUCK. He stated that he had been instructed to attempt to settle the gelding preferably in a handy-to-mid position. READY TO GOOD LUCK had raced very keenly and he tried to settle the gelding by sitting back, thus explaining his bumping on the saddle. He further advised that the gelding had shied on several occasions mid-race and was inclined to race with its head high and he had kept his hands in low position to combat this tendency. The Stewards noted his explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of READY TO GOOD LUCK revealed that it returned lame off fore and broken-winded. The gelding will be required to undergo a veterinary examination at rest and pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of SELANGOR EXPRESS (App R Nuqman) revealed that it was lame off fore and as such will be required to pass a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

DESTINY CHILD (HK Cheng) refused to enter the track expeditiously properly. Trainer HY Cheng was advised that DESTINY CHILD will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall (to be ridden unaided to the start) test before being entered to race again.

SO THE THING (App A Suriya) collapsed at about the 100M resulting in App A Suriya jumping from the mare. A post-race veterinary examination of SO THE THING revealed that the mare bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

REALITY (R Rueven) raced wide in the middle stages.

Near the 800M, D’GREAT RICH (KC Wong) laid inwards, crowding SAN ANDREAS (J Shankar) which bumped with D’GREAT RISE (CK Khaw). ELITE SAINT (App AR Raiyan) which was racing on the inside, had to be restrained, losing ground. At the same time, SAHABA (MM Firdaus) had to be restrained off the heels of D’GREAT RISE. Jockey KC Wong (D’GREAT RICH) was advised that he must afford runners sufficient galloping room.

CHAR KWAY TEOW (C Goon) and MARTIN VJ (HS Gill) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Jockey MM Firdaus eased SAHABA down in the straight, reporting that the gelding felt bad in its action. A post-race veterinary examination of SAHABA revealed no significant finding.

A post-race veterinary examination of WARRIOR KING (AK Lim) revealed no significant finding.

MARTIN VJ which returned with abnormal respiratory noises, will be required to undergo a veterinary examination at rest before being declared to race again.

RACE 9 (R764) CLASS 4 (B) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

Jockey S Zulfikri (AUSSIE EAGLE) subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Panel of Stewards considered the application for a stay which was granted. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of three (3) months and fine of RM20,000/- will be held at a date to be fixed.

RACE 8 (R795) SUPREME B – 1250M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 17 OCTOBER 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

The Stewards, on 21 October 2021 (Thursday), concluded an inquiry into Jockey S Zulfikri’s riding of SACRED TONIC in the above race. Further evidence was taken from Jockey S Zulfikri and Trainer S Siva, the rider and trainer of SACRED TONIC respectively.

After considering the evidence and also reviewing the performance of SACRED TONIC, the Stewards found Jockey S Zulfikri guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge being that:

He restrained SACRED TONIC on jumping, whereby the gelding was unable to race in a prominent position;
When afforded a clear passage prior to straightening at the 450M, he failed to put any pressure on SACRED TONIC to improve at this stage; and
His whip use and the manner in which he had ridden SACRED TONIC in the straight was inconsistent with attempting to encourage SACRED TONIC to maximize its performance.

The Stewards took into consideration Jockey S Zulfikri’s riding record, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months and fined the sum of RM20,000/-. This penalty is to be served cumulatively with any other penalty. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stay of Sentence against Jockey S Zulfikri’s suspension of three (3) months and fine of RM20,000/- related to AUSSIE EAGLE in Race 9 on 10 October 2021 (Sunday), was withdrawn and thus commenced from 21 October 2021 to 20 January 2022, both dates inclusive .

SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER MEETING 2021

A report dated 21 October 2021 (V21/049) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 54 coded urine and 60 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 10 October 2021, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected except for sample coded “30645” which revealed the presence of “parecoxib & valdecozib”. After decoding the sample number, it was established that this sample was reported to have been taken from the horse “FLASH ONE”, finished second in Race 9 (R764) on Sunday, 10 October 2021 at the Selangor Turf Club October Meeting 2021.

Trainer KC Tiang was advised of the contents of this report and his attention drawn to MRA Rule 134(12) which prohibits this horse from racing until it is cleared by the Stewards, and MRA Rule 137(1)/MRA Regulation 46.1 & 46.2 relating to the referee sample. An Inquiry will be held at a date to be fixed.
