Jockey M Zaki appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on YES MAN. In this regard, he explained that after his mount jumped only fairly, he had adopted an aggressive approach at the start in order to obtain a forward position as instructed. He further explained that he was of the view that his mount had gained sufficient momentum approaching the 800M to create a position on his inside, particularly when considering the fast early speed of the race, however into the turn, the three (3) horses on his inside had elected to continue to hold their positions which resulted in him being cast wider then he would have preferred.

He further explained that after being forced wide, he elected to hold his position as in his view, he was attempting to go forward or back as this would be more prejudicial to his mount. The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey M Zaki which was corroborated by the video footage of the race.

Jockey cautioned regarding shifting ground in races.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App S Shazmin, the rider of FA FA STAR, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, EP Tan, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to BILLY ELLIOT and NORTHERN ALLIANCE between the 900M and the 800M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App S Shazmin’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) Malaysian race day, to be deferred, with effect from 24 March 2025 and to expire on 30 March 2025, both dates inclusive.  In lieu of one (1) Malaysian race day, he was also fined RM1000/-.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

At the 250M, PULSE BOMB (App S Shazmin) which was hanging out, was bumped in by ACHILLES PEGASUS which was shifting in away from the whip from the 350M.

A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by App S Shazmin, the rider of the PULSE BOMB, the second placed horse, against the winner, ACHILLES PEGASUS (App A Azizi) on the grounds of interference at the 250M.

After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection as it could not be satisfied that without the above incident, PULSE BOMB would not have finished ahead of ACHILLES PEGASUS.
